In 2001, Louis Palmer travelled overland from Switzerland to India and Nepal. On the way back, for the first time, he visited Afghanistan. He became an eyewitness of a very hidden und unknown, but also fascinating place. Back in Switzerland, he could not just waste his time and wait that things will just become better in Afghanistan. He started to raise money for the support of a local hospital in Nurgal, and one year later, he travelled back again to see if his support had arrived. He then explored the remote mountain areas with a Land Cruiser, making his way through unaccessible and undiscovered terrain. In 2003, he led the first tourist group ever going of Afghanistan, and he also initiated a philanthropic project to rebuild the school in the remote village in Arkandi for 700 children. In Afghanistan he often had to take a risk, but he also learned how to manage it.
