Louis Palmer initiated the rebuilding of the completly destroyed school in the mountain village of Arkandi, 40 km west of Kabul. Today more than 750 pupils go to school there, and the teachers are payed by the Afghan government.

Before, t he children in Arkandi were taught in shipping containers and tents.
Their school was destroyed by the Sowjets in the late 70s.
