In 1998, Louis Palmer became the first person to fly across South America with the smallest airplane. The flight started in Montevideo, Uruguay, which continued southward to Patagonia in Argentina, and then into the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. The aim of this adventure was to explore the human impact on the environment from the air. This journey took Louis seven months to complete, and he covered a distance over 15 000 km.
